Coach Ken Schaumberg(kschaumberg@wayne.k12.ny.us), Outdoor Head Boys Coach
Coach Schaumberg has been with Fairport Track and Field for seven years. He is a resident of Walworth, New York, and has been employed by the Wayne Central School District as a Physical Education Teacher for the past 26 years. He and his wife Sue have 4 daughters, Alicia, Traci, Tiffany, and Abbey.

Coach Schaumberg has varsity head coaching experience in the sports of Track and Field, Gymnastics, and Volleyball. He has also been a volunteer coach for many youth sports teams, private clubs, and recreation programs including special olympics, junior olympics track and field, softball, baseball, soccer, and volleyball.

Schaumberg received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from Ohio University where he was a Varstiy Track Letterman in the High Jump and Decathlon Events. He was ranked 3rd in the high jump in the Mid-American Conference his senior year. He also holds a Masters Degree in Health Education from SUNY Brockport. Coach Schaumberg has been honored 3 times by being named a Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers”. Coach Schaumberg has helped coach 6 track teams to sectional titles. He credits his drive to coach high school athletes as a direct result of his positive athletic experiences he had in high school and college.

Coach Rick Guido(rguido2@rochester.rr.com), Outdoor Head Girls Coach
Is a former Finalist for National Cross Country Coach of the Year(2000), five-time New York State Cross Country Coach of the Year, and nine-time Section V Cross Country Coach of the Year. Coach Rick Guido, brings extensive experience to the Fairport Red Raiders Track & Field program. Elected to the Section V Cross Country Hall of Fame in 2001, Coach Guido has led 32 different teams to the Section V Championships in both indoor and spring track & field. Coach Guido has coached girls track & field at Fairport High School since 1986, and Boys Cross Country until 2001. Coach Guido was also named the Section V Track & Field ‘Coach of the Year’ in 2009.

As an athlete, Coach Guido and Coach Mike Van Auker competed together on a USATF National Championship 4 x 800m relay team, and numerous New York State Empire State Games Championships competing in the 200 and 400m dash, 4 x 100m sprint relay, 4 x 400m and 4 x 800m run. As a competitor Coach Guido racked up an impressive 38-medal total in the Empire State Games.

Coach Dave Rappleyea(drap0616@gmail.com), JV Girls Coach
Coach Rappleyea has coached at Fairport for 4 seasons with the Girl’s Cross Country and as long-distance coach for the Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field teams.

Coach Rappleyea has an impressive list of athletic accomplishments including numerous high school and college level performances. He’s currently training to compete in the Olympic Marathon. A graduate of SUNY Brockport, Coach Rappleyea competed in both cross-country and track & field long-distance events.

Personal bests in these events are: 400m – 58.2, 800m – 2:06.96, 1,500m – 4:15.90, 1 Mile – 4:36.76, 3,000m – 8:57.27, 2 Mile – 9:55, 3 Mile XC – 15:29.46, 5k -15:42, 8k – 25:51, 10 Mile – 53:06, 10k – 32:53.93, Half Marathon – 1:11:42, MARATHON – 2:37.39

His greatest running memories include: Breaking 5:00 in the 1,600m for the first time.(he’s now well below that time); being part of the 2000 Section VI Class A cross-country team, winning his debut 2008 Rochester city marathon in front of all his family and friends, the 2010 Fairport-RH outdoor track & field dual-meet, and the 2010 Fairport Girl’s Cross Country season.

Career Highlights:

  • 4th place at the 2008 Buffalo Half Marathon in a debut time of 1:11.42
  • 2008 Rochester Marathon Champion – debut marathon – in a time of 2:37:39
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at Run for Hospice 10 Mile in 2007-2009 respectively, running 53:06 in 2008
  • 2nd at 2010 Empire State Games Road 10k in a time of 33:07
  • 4th at 2010 Run for Hospice 5k in a time of 15:42

Motivation:

  • Goals for 2011: Break 15 minutes for a track 5k; Run a sub 2:30 marathon.
